Leitelt Iron Works was founded in 1862 by Adolph Leitelt, initially to provide service
to the numerous saw mills in the Grand River Valley. At the turn of the 20th century Leitelt recognized a need for a
more efficient way to handle lumber so it designed and manufactured a line of lumber lifts and transfer cars, some of which
are in use today. As well as providing machinery for the lumber industry, Leitelt designed and manufactured various types of
material handling equipment and a line of passenger and freight elevators, Establishing a reputation for
service and building high quality machinery.
As the industry changed so did Leitelt Iron Works eventually evolving into providing industrial machine repair,
machining, and fabrication services. This early adaptability and
ingenuity is still evident in the company today and is a major factor in the company’s success.
